Bud, Not Buddy, the Newbery and Coretta Scott King Award-Winning story by Christopher Paul Curtis, is a work of young adult fiction published in 1999. The book, which opens in 1936 in the middle of the Great Depression, follows the journey of an orphaned ten-year old boy, Bud Caldwell, who travels from Flint to Grand Rapids, Michigan in search of the man who he thinks is his father. Bud tells his own story, in first-person narration. It is a story of hope, love, belonging, and a child’s invincible spirit.
