Bryan Stevenson's memoir Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption examines the morality of the death penalty and mass incarceration in an unjust system. Published in 2014, Just Mercy weaves together Stevenson’s personal experience, details of the Equal Justice Initiative’s work on behalf of death-row inmate Walter McMillian, and stories of other marginalized clients who were unfairly punished. An American Library Association Notable Book, Just Mercy earned the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, a Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction, and an NAACP Image Award in Nonfiction. Michael B. Jordan starred in a 2019 film based on Stevenson’s best-selling memoir.
