First published in 1891 in The Strand Magazine, "A Scandal in Bohemia" is the third of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works to feature Sherlock Holmes, and the very first short story. It was the first Holmes work illustrated by Sidney Paget, who illustrated most of the Holmes stories, and it later became the first story in Doyle's collection, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. "A Scandal in Bohemia" has been adapted into several plays and films, and is notable for having introduced one of the most famous female characters in the Holmes series, Irene Adler.
